Tough Training

Brought Ima together with me for my state physical training. She was really happy to be on the road again, with some rain, she played like a little child. Happy and cheerful. =) I always feel proud bringing her out. I feel like a proud 'dad' cum owner. Feels good when we go fast together!

I estimated to reach Metro Park within 30minutes, but because of the rain and a break from riding. I took 5 minutes extra to reach my destination. I was partially wet and smelly when I got there. =x Saw Coach Ed and the team assembled at the foyer. I would like to call that, the Fellowship of the Physical Training.

Started with 50-100 star jumps as warm up > lunges > push ups > crunches > bridge > rojak of everything. As for me, the hardest is the push ups. I could feel my hold body trembling when we did the last 10 slow push ups. Further to that, I had teammates that were making funny noises which adds on to the work out. It became harder because laughing requires energy and it got me distracted. But it was fun time. =P

The thing that I like about yesterday's training was, I could feel pain and all without any fancy equipment. You can do a hardcore workout at home if you're discipline enough. That's independent culture. With me quitting my gym membership, I have to be more discipline to train at home. Let's see how it goes.

Journey back was suffering!

Team liveSTRONG

We started out with only 3 juniors, out of 3, only two were regulars. It was a little frustrating in the beginning. It felt like a waste of resources and its hard for them to play a game or do drills. Frus! But we continue on with training, being persistent and hopeful that one day, we will bring in more junior players.

As at today, we have about 10 junior players in our club. Would like to specially thank John Jonathan for supporting and giving advice behind the scene. He even brought in 3 kids to the club and soon find themselves liking Floorball. That's really cool.

Problem with the junior team is, we have players who are around 7-10 years old, high school and college students. The gap is really huge and sometimes I find it hard to run certain drills. And communicating with kids are a little more difficult. haha. They're cute and all but it's really hard to get their attention for more than 20 seconds. But I enjoy my job because I believe this players will be in Team Elite in 5 years time. Like the Law of Dividends by John C Maxwell, investing in the team compounds over time.

Passion Uh La La

There's a huge difference in mindset when you train with passion versus merely pushing yourself to attain a goal. With passion, it sets up a neurological response that gives you pure motivation, it takes out the grind of daily training sessions. Don't we all hate the physical training at Bukit Dumbar, Metropolitan Park or the gym? It simply means, we are not passionate about getting strong, hard, fast, etc physically and mentally.

3rd LOV tells us that, passion should be unquenchable. Who does it mean by unquenchable? I like the definition from this online dictionary;

'Impossible to suppress or destroy'

But is it possible to say its impossible for passion do die down or get destroyed? Based on my life experience, passion can be suppress or destroy, usually by people you're close with and people you trust. I call them the 'destroyer'. People like them only look at problems and not opportunity or potential a person have. =(

The good news it, passion can be revived and renewed. I remember during my college days, the FES chairman(lady) told us, passion is like a bubble. Sometimes people (the destroyer) pops it intentionally (for whatever selfish reasons) but we can inflate it back again by trusting yourself, listening to your heart and relying on God.

I admit I've lost my passion for a couple of things in life. =( I know I am different. As I read blogs, FB wall posts and comments of floorballers around Penang. I am driven and shaken up by their passion for the sport. I am listening and watching you guys. =) You may not know me but I recognize this people. For that I salute you and wish you all the best.

Keep the passion burning!

Develop A Training Strategy

For anything great that has been achieved, it all comes down to strategy. Develop a training strategy that will allow you to accomplish your goal. Random workouts or a gradual increase in distance are a flawed approach. i.e use a blog to track down your time/distance/what your body tells you/etc or use 555notebook =) Just keep track of it. Monitor your training and improve from it.

A training strategy gets you from where you are today to where you want to be. It allows you to be disciplined, decisive and creative. [4th LOV - Creativity is essential] You can create great result for yourself. It saves you time, energy, failure and frustrations.

Success is not only mindset [mental]. It is a strategy [physical]. Develop YOUR strategy today.

MIA

Was late for training yesterday because of Sam. hahaha. Anyway, I missed a session of push ups which almost kill half of the floorballers there. I hate it when I miss something hard and tough. =/ Did a couple of 'star jumps' and 5 laps of killers. We had a little debrief after our training. Coach Ed states, he could train more if he trains alone. Which is pretty true. I can do more if I train alone. So why bother training with your teammates?

Training builds team chemistry and I have been lacking on this area. I tend to only click with certain groups of people in the state team which is not healthy. I'm gonna try to bond with the team and take effort to fix things. =)

Often times, training will become hard. You wonder - How can I do this? How long will it take me? Am I crazy to be doing this?

Stay on course. When your mental toughness is challenged, it is a sign that you are getting closer to victory. [5th law of the LOV - quitting is unthinkable] Continue to persevere relentlessly. Your rewards are close at hand.

[I am so so sorry Ima. Give me another chance will you?]
